CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS
About this product
Across the DMV, a lot of handgun shoppers want the same three things: a 9mm that takes a red dot, a trigger that does not need work, and a size that fits both the nightstand and a holster. CZ's new DUTY 4.0 answers all three. It is a striker-fired 9x19mm built on a serialized internal chassis, which means the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is a modular part rather than the registered gun. The slide is cut for direct-mount optics, and CZ shows it wearing Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield dots.
Pick the C compact for carry: 15+1 rounds standard, 17+1 with the extended base plate, 770 g and 135 mm tall. Pick the F full-size for the range or home: 17+1 standard, 19+1 extended, 780 g. Both run a 4-inch unthreaded barrel, fixed sights and a refined SFDA trigger rated at about 5.6 lbs. Add MS to the model name and you get a manual thumb safety on top of the three internal safeties. CZ's suggested retail is $729.
Capacity on the full-frame is 17+1 standard and 19+1 with the extended floor plate. Height 143 mm (5.6 in), empty weight 780 g (27.7 oz). It is the duty-belt, range and home-defense version of the line, and the one most buyers find easiest to shoot well.
MS stands for manual safety. This model adds a thumb lever to the automatic safeties every DUTY has: the firing pin block, the trigger safety and the trigger bar safety. Agencies and buyers who want a positive on/off control choose this version; the trigger itself is unchanged.
Three things define the DUTY 4.0. First, a serial-numbered modular chassis: the serial-numbered part is inside, the grip frame around it is modular. Second, the trigger, a striker SFDA rated at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs), 4 mm (0.16 in) reset, 9 ± 1 mm (0.4 ± 0.04 in) travel, which is short and repeatable for a service pistol. Third, a direct-mount optics-ready slide, shown by CZ with Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield dots fitted, so a red dot sits low without a stack of plates.
Who is it for: the belt, the bedside and the range; the version to buy if you rarely need to hide the gun. If you already shoot a P-10, the DUTY is the next step in the same family, with a new chassis and the optics done right.
Handguns ordered here ship to the FFL dealer you choose, whether that dealer is in the District, Maryland, Virginia or anywhere else in the country. The dealer handles the transfer paperwork and applies the rules of the state or district where you pick it up. We do not interpret those rules for you; your dealer does that at the counter. Enter your dealer's details at checkout so the pistol goes to the right place.

Frequently asked questions
- Should I pick the C or the F for carry around the DMV?
- The C compact is 135 mm tall and 770 g with 15+1 rounds, which makes it the easier one to carry. The F full-size adds 8 mm of height and two rounds.
- Does the DUTY 4.0 come with a red dot?
- CZ lists it as optics-ready with fixed sights, so plan on buying the dot separately. The slide is milled for direct mounting, and CZ has shown Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield units on it.
- Is the CZ DUTY 4.0 F MS the same gun as the F?
- Yes, apart from the manual thumb safety. Chassis, trigger, slide and the 17+1 capacity are identical.
- Who should pick the MS version?
- Anyone trained on a manual safety or who wants a positive on/off control, including many agency buyers.
